8 Times MCU Trailers Showed Way Too Much

By the time Thor: Ragnarok released in 2017, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was bursting at the seams with incredible characters. However, there is always room for more, with Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie joining the fray along with the likes of Korg and Hela.

Though fans of the comics may have had a good idea of who she was, and what they could expect from her as a character, she was relatively obscure to the mainstream audiences. Why then, would the Ragnarok trailer show her standing with Thor, Hulk, and Loki on the Rainbow Bridge?

When Valkyrie was introduced, she was very much played out like a villain. She attacked and kidnaped Thor, selling him to the Grandmaster as a fighter. The entire time however, everyone knew full well that she would ultimately fight side by side with the God of Thunder before the end of the movie.

Showing this scene in the trailer achieved nothing. There was plenty of non-spoilery footage of Valkyrie that could have shown off the franchise’s new character, and still keep audiences guessing about her. Instead, her introduction was almost moot, as there was never any doubt that she would be a hero by the time the credits rolled.
