8 Times Superhero Movies Pushed The Boundaries Of PG-13

5. Mary Jane's Wet T-Shirt - Spider-Man

Spider-Man Kirsten Dunst
Columbia Pictures

This iconic scene from Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man movie left scores of teenage boys (and let's be honest, everyone else with a Y chromosome) feeling a bit hot under the collar when the movie began busting blocks back in 2002.

Mary Jane Watson (Kirstin Dunst) finds herself in a spot of bother when she cuts through an alley on a particularly rainy night, only for Spidey (Tobey Maguire) to swing in and save the day. She rewards the Wall Crawler with an upside down kiss, and a gawk at her figure courtesy of a soaking wet t-shirt. It isn't overly gratuitous, and actually only amounts to a couple of brief shots - but its still very noticeable, and no doubt resulted in many broken pause buttons when the movie hit VHS (yes, it's that old).

Spider-Man was released before the superhero boom really kicked in and Raimi was probably afforded a bit more leeway than he would have been today. Can you picture Emma Stone running around in a wet tee in The Amazing Spider-Man for example?

Don't answer that...
