8 Times Superhero Movies Pushed The Boundaries Of PG-13

4. The Joker's (Almost) Happy Ending - Batman

Christopher Nolan may be credited with taking the Caped Crusader back to his "dark 'n gritty" roots, but Tim Burton's original Batman flicks weren't exactly kiddie-friendly either.

For one, the Joker (Jack Nicholson) and Batman (Michael Keaton) kill a whole lot of people, some pretty violently (remember that "ooh I got a live one here!" hand buzzer scene?) ; but it's actually a sexually orientated moment towards the end of the movie that really stands out as being pretty risqué.

As the former Jack Napier dances about with his captive Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger), Batman closes in for a surprise attack. Noticing this, Miss Vale decides to play along with the Joker's advances and begins flattering and kissing him, before making certain she has his attention by slumping to her knees. The camera doesn't follow her, but it's safe to assume she's not down there shining his clown shoes.

There's nothing graphic about it of course, but it still remains the most sexually suggestive scene in a PG-13 superhero movie to date.
