8 Underrated Disney Film Songs From The '90s
3. I Won't Say I'm In Love - Hercules
Poor Meg, she sure does struggle through Hercules. First because of her deal with Hades, and second because of how, against her better instincts, she falls in love with Hercules.
Her debt to Hades is our hero's last act of heroism to prove that he is indeed worthy of living in Olympus, and her feelings are all explained to us in one phenomenal song.
I Won't Say I'm In Love is more than just a mid-way tune, it's character development. It's the moment that Meg makes her choice between following Hades and admitting her feelings to Hercules.
She doesn't want to and tries to remind herself that her love for him can't be worth the pain of loss should anything happen, and as a result, she just point blank refuses to say that she is in love. At least out loud.
Though, of course, love in Disney is never quite that simple and she has to die in order to illustrate her feelings.
Susan Egan's vocal performance is one of the best in the whole Disney repertoire, as she drags Meg's emotions out with the backing of the muses.
