3. Captain Marvel - Female Fronted Blockbusters

Captain Marvel is already making waves in the hugely Marvel-dominated film industry, and rightly so, since it's the first time we've got a flesh and blood woman in a title role in her own dang movie. DC actually managed to beat these guys to the punch with Wonder Woman, which they should probably be a little embarrassed about - but nevertheless, better late than never.

Captain Marvel is the beginning of women being represented fairly in the MCU, without being relegated to a love interest or sidekick at long, long last.

Whilst plenty don't understand why it's a big deal, or think that it's active Social Justice Warrior pandering, people seem to forget that women make up half the population and are more than capable of being able to kick some ass.

Finally being able to see that reflected in our entertainment systems is something worthy of note, and to be celebrated for its unapologetic portrayal of both an excellent comic book character and a nuanced, balanced woman.

With Black Panther leading a bold, important reassessment of what we've come to have as normal in superhero movies, Captain Marvel looks set to follow up in excellent fashion. Sorry, not sorry - her film is going to be a turning point in female fronted media being released, hopefully welcoming the era where we don't have to have endless gender debates on the internet.
