8 Upcoming Films That Will Change Everything
2. The Irishman - Netflix As Hollywood Producers
Considering The Irishman is technically a Netflix movie, it's got some serious nuts being this big, brash, and badass. Populated with a cast of Robert de Niro and Al Pacino, and directed by none other than Martin Scorsese, The Irishman will be telling the story of "Frank Sheeran, a labor union official with mob connections, recalls his involvement in the slaying of Jimmy Hoffa, an American labor union leader."
Struggling for financing from regular distributors, Netflix came in to save the day with a whopping multimillion deal. The Irishman will still be getting a limited cinema release, because it's Scorsese, so of course it will, but will be one the first absolutely massive movies to be offered up as part of a streaming subscription service rather than having a regular release period.
We're looking at the future of cinema with this sort of change, and Netflix are definitely flexing their massive, steroid-y muscles by being able to buy out projects like this. Get ready for Hollywood to really start paying attention if they weren't taking Netflix seriously before, as this is the first mind-blowing release to be snapped up by the company that proves its mammoth pulling power.
The next generation's blockbusters might be home releases. That's an insanely huge development for the industry.
