8 Upcoming Horror Films To Be Pumped For In 2019
7. Pet Sematary
Ever since the release and subsequent gangbuster success of It in 2017, Stephen King adaptations have been back in vogue in a big way.
The upcoming Pet Sematary remake looks poised to capitalize on this. Directors Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer have been slowly working their way up the horror ranks over the course of the last few years, directing standout installments in horror anthologies (the Valentine's Day segment of the film Holidays) and fan-favorite episodes of horror television (the Scream TV show's best episode, The Vanishing).
With Pet Sematary, they're poised to make their big-budget debut and judging from the initial trailer, they look to be a pretty perfect fit.
The original film adaptation of King's book, Mary Lambert's 1989 film, is very fondly remembered by some but certainly does leave room for growth. King's original novel is typically King, in that it is bone-chilling when it's at its best. The story of the 'sematary' itself is horrifying and leads to all kinds of tantalizingly terrifying opportunities for the new film to explore.
With a cast like this (featuring Jason Clarke, Seimetz, and John Lithgow), tantalizing directors, and such a solid core story, here's hoping this film follows in the tradition of the best 2018 reboots (Halloween, The Haunting of Hill House, Suspiria) and delivers a truly worthy adaptation.
