8 Upcoming Horror Films To Be Pumped For In 2019

The original Happy Death Day featured a concept that felt cheesy at best; 'what if Groundhog Day, but slasher?'

Turns out, the film itself was cheekily aware of that inherent goofiness. The resulting film ran with its premise, leaving a trail of humor and horror in its wake, often side-by-side. Director Christopher B. Landon navigated the murky waters with all the precision of a seasoned veteran and crafted a film that was so infectiously fun you couldn't help but enjoy. And surprisingly, lead actress Jessica Rothe delivered a touching and transformative performance that was just as flexible and endearing as the film itself.

So when Blumhouse announced a sequel that would be bringing back Landon in the director's chair and Rothe reprising the lead, it seemed too good to be true. Then, the trailer came out.

While it has yet to be released online (but can still be seen in front of Blumhouse's Halloween in theaters), the trailer is absolute lunacy and promises to double down on everything that made the first film so much fun.

Rothe is back and maybe more charmingly self-defacing than ever before, the horror sequences look even more suspenseful, the Groundhog Day love is even more front-and-center, and there's even hints at the story going full sci-fi in explaining how all of this has been happening, with tongue still planted firmly in cheek.

In short, it looks like a riotous good time at the cinema, if nothing else.
