8 Upcoming Movies No One Asked For (But Will Probably See)

3. Indiana Jones 5

Aquaman Jason Momoa
Paramount Pictures

Much like the previously mentioned Toy Story, the original Indiana Jones Trilogy is one of the greatest ever created. To say Raiders of the Lost Ark is a genre defining masterpiece is far from a controversial stance.

Then, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull happened and it wasn’t the same Indy adventure we were accustomed to seeing. The franchise known for some of the best practical effects of its’ day leaned heavily on embarrassing CGI, for the purpose of having Shia LaBeouf swing from vines with apes.

It is hard to believe we are 10 years removed from that film and even harder to believe that another Indiana Jones is in development and aiming for a 2021 release. For no other reason, it is difficult to comprehend why the now 76-year old Harrison Ford has signed on for another one of these.

This is not to doubt Ford. Since Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Ford has reprised his other signature characters Han Solo in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rick Deckard in 2017's Blade Runner 2049. Both performances were widely praised and demonstrated Ford still has more than enough in the tank.

An Indiana Jones movie that returns to using innovative effects, telling stories of elaborate searches for historic and biblical artifacts (no aliens, please) and not constantly reminding us that the titular character is now old, could still provide plenty of fun and excitement. Also, having Steven Spielberg behind the lens sure doesn't hurt.
