8 Upcoming Movies No One Asked For (But Will Probably See)

4. Detective Pikachu

Aquaman Jason Momoa
The Pokemon Company

A movie based on the Detective Pikachu game is being made and, barring delays, it will arrive next year. Generally speaking, film adaptations of video games have been awful. Maybe it’s thinner plots than movies require or film as a medium not providing consumers as inherently immersive an experience as gameplay, but there’s something about video games that don’t translate well to the big screen.

With all of this in mind, a Pokemon live-action movie was inevitable. Pokemon is the largest media franchise ever and will surely get people into a theater. Although a story following Ash Ketchum on his journey to be the very best would be a more natural pick, highlighting Pikachu will surely work for the bottom line.

Ryan Reynolds is also set to star and has more than absolved himself of Green Lantern shame. If for some reason you were previously thinking of adult men that could possibly bring Pikachu to life, the humorous Reynolds would be on the short list.

Any movie involving Pikachu, one of the most recognizable characters in the World, will likely draw the adolescent of age and heart. Despite being ridiculous and unnecessary, the movie has some things working for it.
