6. There's Going To Be A Lot More Monsters - Godzilla 2
Gareth Edwards is currently working hard on Rogue One, the first in a planned long-line of Star Wars spin-off movies, but if he was hoping to get a bit of a rest after he's helped the Rebels steal the Death Star plans he's fresh out of luck. Coming out less than two years after that Star Wars Story is Godzilla 2, the sequel to his own reboot of Toho's signature Kaiju. Now, all things considered Godzilla was an incredibly impressive film, furthering several of the themes from Edwards' own Monsters while also comfortably beating Pacific Rim on the action states. Yes, Bryan Cranston died way too early and some people didn't like the drip-feed reveal of the King of the Monsters, but those niggles aren't enough to dampen hopes for the sequel. Where the original really excelled was in the monster-on-monster showdowns. For the first time Godzilla didn't look like a guy in a costume knocking over cardboard boxes, but a giant beast smashing up a real city, with super-wide shots used to jaw-dropping effect. And, as the sequel is set to update a long list of iconic monsters - most notably Mothra, Rodan and Ghidrah - this key asset is only going to be amplified; instead of an update of previous creatures (the M.U.T.O.s were basically a redo of Monsters' squid aliens) we're going to be seeing 'Zilla taking on his old foes. C'mon, how is that not exciting?
