8 Upcoming Movies That Will Be Nothing Like You're Expecting

4. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

The Incredibles
Universal Pictures

The Expectation: A movie that's as glossy, bombastic and spectacle-focused as Jurassic World was.

Why That's Not The Case: Jurassic World, whether you love it, hate it or remain entirely indifferent, was a very safe movie.

It followed that tried-and-true Jurassic Park formula of the beasts breaking out of captivity and wreaking havoc, delivering Raptors and a T-Rex - the series' two most popular creatures - in the process.

But by all accounts, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will be anything but safe.

The hiring of director J. A. Bayona - who's known for his horror and character-driven pieces like The Orphanage and The Impossible - indicates that the sequel be more scaled-down, more gritty, and more focused on its characters than the action and effects that drove Jurassic World.

This was backed up by the writer of both films - Colin Trevorrow - who's previously stated that Fallen Kingdom will be more character-driven and suspenseful than the first film, and in a chat with CinemaBlend, he also mentioned that it will be a lot scarier.

That's not to say Fallen Kingdom will ditch the action and explosions entirely - absolutely not - but you should expect this dino movie to be one of the most thoughtful, tense, and horror-infused entries in the long-running series.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
