8 Upcoming Movies That Will Be Nothing Like You're Expecting
3. Minecraft
The Expectation: A fully animated movie that retains the game's 'blocky' aesthetic throughout.
Why That's Not The Case: Weirdly enough, the Minecraft movie will not be a fully computer-animated feature.
What's the one thing that makes the game so recognisable, even to people who've never played it? It's the blocky nature of its characters and its world.
And yet, when the initial announcement that Warner Bros. were developing a Minecraft movie landed, it was revealed they were going to be making the movie live-action.
But what exactly does that mean? Won't that just make it a random live-action adventure with the Minecraft name slapped on the box? Well, not exactly. While speaking to Collider last year, the film's producer, Roy Lee, said the following...
“Minecraft would be part of a multiverse where humans can enter that has the feel of what the live action version of a Minecraft experience.”
Now, while that comment doesn't clear up exactly what the film will be like, it does give us a big clue as to what we can expect.
Lee also produced 2014's The LEGO Movie, and when you combine that fact with the above comment, it appears that the Minecraft movie may follow the former's choice to include both live-action human segments, and fully animated segments.
If that's the case then the Minecraft movie is doomed to be compared to The LEGO Movie, and that's a high bar to reach.
