8 Upcoming Sequels Nobody Ever Thought Would Happen

7. Incredibles 2

Aside from say, Toy Story, The Incredibles was the one Pixar film most primed for a natural sequel. Given the film honed in on a family of superheroes with awesomely varied powers, the opportunities were endless. Instead, we got Cars 2 and Cars 3.

And when you remember that the original film was released all the way back in 2004, a whopping fourteen years ago, it's maddening enough to make you want to chase writer/director Brad Bird down in order to ask him why it took so long.

Because for a while it seemed like Bird was desperate to do anything other than The Incredibles 2 film, despite leaving the first flick on an awesome cliffhanger as our heroes are pounced upon by new villain "The Underminer." Bird's excuse back in 2009 was that he was "waiting for the right story," but so many years passed without word that it seemed like this project had been shelved forever.

Then, in 2014, we got word that The Incredibles 2 (since shortened to Incredibles 2) was happening. For real. Four years later, and the film is set for a June 2018 release, and will begin right where the last movie left off. For big fans, it's the stuff of dreams, given for a while it seemed like the only inevitable Pixar sequel was Cars 4. Thankfully such a sequel is yet to be announced. Yet.
