8 Upcoming Sequels Nobody Ever Thought Would Happen

2011's The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn was a pretty good movie that almost everyone on the planet forgot about right away.

Based on the classic comics, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Jamie Bell as the titular adventurer, Tintin was originally positioned as a massive franchise with the potential for an unlimited number of sequels. And whilst the first film was helmed by Spielberg himself, the follow-up - originally slated for release back in 2014 - was intended for none other than Middle-Earth maestro Peter Jackson.

Then it all went quiet, and Tintin faded from memory. Audiences likely assumed that given its relatively underwhelming box office results, the franchise was done for, and Jackson - or perhaps the studio - had ultimately decided to pursue other projects.

But wait! In a very recent interview, Spielberg shocked pretty much everyone when he came out with this little tidbit: "Peter Jackson has to do the second part. Normally, if all goes well, he will soon start working on the script. As it takes two years of animation work on the film, I wouldn’t expect to see it be released for at least another three years. But Peter will stick with it. Tintin is not dead!"

Let those words echo through your mind palace. Tintin is not dead. Still, given the timeline Spielberg laid out, we won't see the movie in theatres until around 2021, a decade after the original was released. Better late than never, though. Right?
