8. Fantastic Four 2
The Film: A sequel to the reboot of Marvel's first family, starring Miles Teller as Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic, Kata Mara as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Hopefully with more plot than the original. Why It Won't Happen: Where to start? First of all, there's the fact that the film was a disaster at the box-office. With a budget of $120m, it has made only £40m on top of that, which is less than both of the previous efforts at getting the franchise going. Not only did it bomb financially, it was also slated by critics and audiences alike, currently having a 4.1/10 rating on IMDB, and just 9% on Rotten Tomatoes. Yes, nine percent. The same rating as Halle Berry's Catwoman and the 1990 version of Captain America. Then there's Josh Trank, the movie's director, who has already publicly disowned the film (in a quickly deleted tweet). There were clear problems, to say the least, between Trank and the studio, and it'd be difficult to find someone willing to step into what seems a poisoned chalice. Producer Simon Kinberg has been chatting recently about his hopes of making the sequel work, but he'd be better off keeping his attentions focussed on the other 100 or so projects he's involved with.
