The Film: The standalone sequel to the 2012 film Man Of Steel, the movie that's serving as the starting point of sorts for the entire DCEU, which will see Henry Cavill once more playing Kal-el, this time without Batman or any of his Justice League pals helping him out. Why It Won't Happen: Technically speaking we are getting Man Of Steel 2 next year, it's just going to be called Batman V Superman instead, and feature more of the former than the latter. Man Of Steel didn't do as well as Warner Bros. had hoped, either critically or commercially, so instead of an outright sequel they've recruited the Dark Knight to help beef things up. From there both characters will be headed into two Justice League films, with at least one solo Batman outing on the cards as well (with Ben Affleck set to direct and co-write as well as star). There's a lot more faith in the Caped Crusader at the moment than there is in Cavill and Clark Kent. With a pretty packed slate right up until 2020, there will have been almost a decade passed by the time they even get round to doing a proper follow-up to Man Of Steel, and that's dependent on everything leading up to that point being a success as well. While Batman V Superman could (and hopefully will) be great, that's more likely to come down to Bats than Supes, and he looks set to be left behind as the Universe continues to expand (and then they'll do a reboot, obviously). NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
