8 Villains For The MCU Spider-Man (And Who Should Play Them)
7. The Chameleon - Doug Jones
The first supervillain Spidey ever faced, the Chameleon is a master of disguise who can change his appearance at will (the comics have developed the explanation for how he does this over time, going from masks to a special gas to hologram technology). For such a character, an actor who is gifted at working under masks would be ideal. So who better than monster actor extraordinaire Doug Jones? Though you might not recognise him, superhero fans you will know Jones from such covered-up roles as Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movies and the Silver Surfer in the Fantastic Four sequel (as well as Deathbolt in Arrow and The Flash, for which he used his own face). In these sorts of roles, Jones has proved he can give fully expressive performances just through his body language. This is exactly what a part like the Chameleon needs. While most of the time he could be played by other members of the cast - those the character is impersonating - in his own form he should be a sinister presence, unknowable beneath his blank white face. Come to think of it; failing the Chameleon, Doug Jones would also make a good Mysterio, the illusionist and fish-bowl headed supervillain.
