8 Ways Batman V Superman Could Be A Total Let Down

2. Forced Ties To Man Of Steel

I've never really understood the fuss made over Man of Steel's final act. While thousands of innocent villains may have died during Superman and General Zod's destructive battle, there was no time for the hero to stop and save them. Had he failed to stop Zod by any means necessary, every single person on Earth would have died. Superman wasn't fighting for Metropolis; he was fighting for the entire planet. Of course, the internet being what it is, almost countless editorials were quickly published berating Man of Steel for depicting a hero who didn't put innocent lives first. Some even took the time and effort to calculate how many people had died and what the battle would have cost in repairs. As a result, Batman v Superman is going to make that battle a major driving force in the story it tells. Snyder claims that was always the plan, but it's easy to imagine that both he and the studio felt pressurised to address the vocal complaints about Man of Steel in this follow-up. The trailers have since made it clear that it's going to play a massive role in everything from how Superman is perceived by the public to why Batman decides to go after Metropolis' new hero, and that ultimately feels forced and somewhat lazy. Is Bruce Wayne so stupid that he doesn't understand that the reason one of his buildings was tragically destroyed with its employees inside is because Superman was fighting for the greater good? Batman v Superman really could have skipped ahead a few years and moved past that battle, referencing it in passing or something similar. Instead, it's become a plot point this movie is revolving around, and that feels wholly unnecessary. In striving to answer his critics by shoehorning that controversial battle into this movie, Snyder risks letting it dominate and become an even bigger talking point due to the fact there will inevitably be those displeased with how it's addressed here anyway.
