8 Ways Batman V Superman Could Be A Total Let Down

1. The Movie Only Seems To Exist To Set Up Justice League

Whether they have just two battles or a dozen, Batman and Superman aren't the most important part of their own movie. Even if the rumours are correct and the cameo appearances from the DC Extended Universe's other heroes are only seconds long, it's clear that this movie exists solely to set up 2017's Justice League. Does that mean there won't still be a satisfying story revolving around the two titular heroes? Of course not, but Dawn of Justice is attempting to squeeze Marvel's entire Phase 1 slate into one movie in a bid to skip ahead to a Justice League movie with relatively little set up. It's going to be a very crowded and busy film, and it's hard not to be cynical about why it's being made. We've all been hoping to see a Batman/Superman movie for years now, but between talk of Wonder Woman's being a "gateway drug" to Justice League and the amount of focus being given to the heroes making cameo appearances, Batman v Superman feels almost a little like X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That put Wolverine's origin story on the back burner in preference of lazy cameos from every mutant Fox could think to throw in, and while this move stands a great chance of being a million times better than that, it could ultimately suffer from the same problems. Warner Bros. spent so much time focusing on profitable franchises like Harry Potter and The Hobbit that they foolishly neglected their stable of DC Comics properties. With Marvel Studios developing hit after hit, they're now scrambling to catch up, and throwing Batman and Superman into the same movie to set the stage for Justice League might just be the quickest and most convenient way to do so...
