8 Ways DC's TV Shows Have Already Beaten The Movies
7. They're Making The Story Decisions The Movies Won't Have The Balls To
So much focus is clearly being put on making the DC movies dark, gritty, and realistic, that it's quickly become apparent fans are going to end up missing out on a lot of what makes the comic books great. As a result, while there's nothing to say that these big screen adaptations won't tell some great stories, it's pretty hard to picture them taking the kind of risks that these shows have over the past few years. The Flash is a great example of that. During the course of its first season, the show delved deep into time travel and is currently dealing with the concept of alternate realities, two ideas which will be tough to get across effectively in a two hour movie. However, it's with storytelling risks like this that these small screen stories are able to shine, and if Batman v Superman's latest trailer is any indication, that will be a by the numbers tale. Sure, The Trinity will be pitted against a massive CGI Doomsday (Grodd and King Shark looked way better, right?), but it feels like even Gotham is taking more risks with the source material as it takes such a unique approach to unravelling the origins of Batman's greatest villains than what these films are doing. It's obviously early days, but these shows have already found the right balance of respecting and shaking up the comics.
