8 Ways DC's TV Shows Have Already Beaten The Movies
6. They Give The Fans What They Want
The advantage of TV shows like Arrow, Gotham, Supergirl, and The Flash is that those in charge of them can see what fans are saying on a weekly basis and adjust things accordingly if it becomes clear that that is the right thing to do. That's why murderous vigilante "The Hood" is now the Green Arrow we all know and love from the source material, and it's this sort of connection which really elevates these shows. While it's a guarantee that comic book lover Zack Snyder has thrown lots of great stuff into Batman v Superman for fanboys, the fact that Arrow was able to bring back Matt Ryan's John Constantine for a special episode meant a huge amount to a lot of viewers. Supergirl and Gotham casting actors from past adaptations in new roles is also the kind of fan service which works really well on the small screen. In short, moves like this feel a lot more personal than the Easter Eggs and random references we're used to seeing in movies, and being able to do this type of thing is one of the many advantages of telling these stories in this format. Just look at Green Lantern; by the time Warner Bros. realised they had produced a movie fans didn't want, it was too late, and now Hal Jordan won't get another chance until 2020!
