It's possible that Doctor Strange would never even have happened had that first Iron Man movie not clicked with audiences like it did back in 2008, but fortunately, it was a roaring success.

Said success then allowed the Marvel universe to pivot around Tony Stark at every turn, with the character being referenced in virtually every movie, spearheading both Avengers team-ups and appearing prominently on anything that carries the Marvel brand, from video-games to lunchboxes to t-shorts.

Obviously, that's great for the MCU. The 'Iron Man effect' - having everything the character touches turn to literal gold - is hard to come by, but it all starts with one thing; a successful debut.

And that's exactly what Doctor Strange has enjoyed; it's sat at a whopping 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and has brought in over $300 million dollars after less than two weeks of release.

That bodes extremely well for the character's future, providing a solid foundation to build on, and will certainly help if the Doctor is to one day step into Iron Man's well-worn shoes; both characters have started off in a successful fashion, so why can't they both lead the MCU equally as successfully?

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
