4. He Almost Wore A "Weird Feather" In His Hat
Yup. Bizarre as it might seem, Indiana Jones' iconic fedora almost had a feather stuck in the top of it, which just seems wrong. Plainly, unashamedly
wrong. According to the original third draft of the Raiders script, though, that's exactly what writer Lawrence Kasdan felt was right for the character back when he penned the screenplay:
"A narrow trail across the green face of the canyon. A group of men make their way along it. At the head of the party is an American, INDIANA JONES. He wears a short leather jacket, a flapped holster, and a brimmed felt hat with a weird feather stuck in the band."
That's both as vague and specific as Kasdan gets regarding the feather, but he clearly wanted to communicate to everyone reading the script that Indy was a mysterious character - one with a panache for weird and enigmatic feathers stuffed in the band of his hat. To be frank, it's probably a good idea that this hat-based embellishment was abandoned; nowadays, such a thing might've made Indy look like a pimp or something. Awkward. Speaking of awkward...
