9 Ways The Amazing Spider-Man Almost Turned Out Awesome
5. Stark Tower
Although it only became a publicly known possibility with the Sony email hacks, Spider-Man being somewhat linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been an idea on the back-burner for a good long while now.
When The Amazing Spider-Man was in post-production and The Avengers was gearing up for its record-breaking release, the two companies considered having a consistent New York skyline, with Stark Tower sitting alongside Oscorp's in Webb's movie. Of course, it would have been little more than an easter egg for fans to gush about post-viewing, but seeing as Marvel are now building a massive multi-film arc around a background in-joke in Thor (squint and you can make out the Infinity Gauntlet) it could have been the gateway to much bigger things.
It'd have been a win-win-win situation; Sony would have had the added revenue being associated with Marvel's movies, and Kevin Feige would likely have been on hand to provide tips on how to better integrate the character into the financially viable world. In fact, that's very similar to what's actually happening now with Spider-Man in the MCU, the only difference being that in this case Sony wouldn't have had to totally kill the franchise to get there.
