8 Ways New Batman V Superman Trailer Made You Change Your Mind

7. It's Poised As A Genuine Response To The Criticisms Of The First Movie

What You Originally Thought: One of the biggest criticisms aimed at the previous movie in the canon, Man of Steel, held issue with the large-scale fight sequences which - for all intents and purposes - would have probably left hundreds of thousands of people dead in reality. Talk about a fun time at the movies! The film was derided somewhat for its indifferent approach to civilian causalities and collateral damage, with most blaming director Zack Snyder, who has a tendency to implement explosive sequences of the Michael Bay variety. This, of course, meant that many fans have been worried about the sequel's standing as a noisy, explosion-clad mess of similar means. Which is fair enough. How The New Trailer Changed Your Mind: The film itself seems to have been designed as a response to the criticisms faced by the original movie. The plot hinges on Superman having to face up to the damages that he caused to Metropolis at the end of the first film, with Holly Hunter's senator leading the charge against the Man of Steel. "The world needs to know what happened and what he stands for," she says. "That kind of power is very dangerous." Not to forget the fact that Bruce Wayne's vendetta against Superman begins during the battle of Metropolis (seen here in a flashback scene that retcons Man of Steel somewhat and will likely form the basis for the opening of the film). When you think about it, it's a really clever way to embrace the criticisms of Man of Steel, though; writers Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer have essentially shaped them to form the "premise" of the sequel.
