8 Ways New Batman V Superman Trailer Made You Change Your Mind

4. Jesse Eisenberg As Lex Luthor = Brilliant

What You Originally Thought: As was the case with Ben Affleck being cast as Batman, there was a notable backlash with regards to Jesse Eisenberg as supervillain Lex Luthor. At the time of the announcement, it had been rumoured that Bryan Cranston - star of TV's Breaking Bad - had been lined up to play Superman's arch nemesis, and in comparison, Jesse Eisenberg - the nerdy kid from Adventureland - seemed like a bit of an anti-climax. But surely - given his performance in The Social Network - he was the 21st century's Luthor? How The New Trailer Changed Your Mind: Jesse Eisenberg looks positively riveting in the trailer; gone is the intense Mark Zuckerberg-like character that everyone expected, replaced with a long-haired yuppie with a noticeably nervous disposition. Still, there's no denying that Eisenberg looks absolutely brilliant in the part going by the first footage of his character; his echo of "The red capes are coming... the red capes are coming..." at the very end of the new trailer is particularly chilling, as is the unexpected appearance of... is that hair? He's a very different villain to the one that Cranston might have been, but the decision to cast a younger, scattier version of Lex Luthor proves itself a wise one here.
