8 Ways The Simpsons Movie Could Have Turned Out Completely Differently
8. The Kamp Krusty Movie
For those who are familiar with The Simpsons's glory days, season four episode Kamp Krusty is a particular highlight, a Lord Of The Flies-style, Apocalypse Now-aping tale of a summer camp gone wrong. And had producer James L. Brooks had his way, Kamp Krusty could have taken The Simpsons to the big screen all the way back in 1992. After the Kamp Krusty episode was completed for its TV run and Brooks caught a screening of it, he recommended the script for the episode be expanded and used for a Simpsons feature. The episode was actually held over from season three, and while efforts were made to turn Kamp Krusty into a movie in the meantime, the crew ultimately found it couldn't be done. Already spending all their time on the Simpsons TV show and having positioned Kamp Krusty as the season four opener, the writers also found Kamp Krusty wasn't a concept they could take feature-length. Said producer Al Jean to Brooks: "if we can't make 18 minutes out of this episode, how are we supposed to make 80?"
