8 Ways The Simpsons Movie Could Have Turned Out Completely Differently
7. Simpstasia
Matt Groening's love of musicals is no secret - it's stamped all over The Simpsons TV show and its occasional jump into musical numbers. The Simpsons Movie was, in fact, originally planned as a musical and could still have been one if drastic changes hadn't been made in the late stages of production (more on that to come). One of the early suggestions for a Simpsons feature film was to make a parody of/tribute to the colourful Disney extravaganza Fantasia, a mix of lavish Disney animation and classical music. It was Groening's idea to make the musical tribute, natch, and it would have been imaginatively called Simpstasia. However, something that frequently acted as a stumbling block for early Simpsons feature film ambitions got in the way: time. Groening and his team simply didn't have enough of it back in the '90s when a Simpsons movie was first proposed - the Simpsons staff was much smaller then, and writing a feature script alongside the TV episodes would've been virtually impossible - so Simpstasia never happened.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
