8 Ways Upcoming Movies Can Fix Franchise Mistakes

The Mistake: The formula has become a little stale and repetitive.

How The Movie Will Fix It: The fearsome Predator has appeared in five movies to date, and in each one, the concept is largely the same. The creature is surrounded by cannon-fodder humans (or cannon-fodder Xenomorphs) and picks them off in a series of grotesque, bloodthirsty ways.

The settings have changed, but the Predator has become a little uninteresting and unsurprising, the mostly poor response to every single one of his movies - bar the first - almost killing the franchise.

It's a series that has been in desperate need of reinvention for a long, long time, and thankfully, that's what Shane Black's 2018 sequel The Predator is aiming to provide.

Way before the movie even started filming, producer John Davis said this about the project (via Collider):

"I think it’s genius and I think it’s entertaining, and what it did is recreate a famous franchise in a different, interesting way; looking at it from a different light. He’s [Shane Black] got a way of looking at this that makes you excited again... the writing is so fresh, the perspective is so fresh. I’m telling you you’re going to get something you don’t expect and you’re going to say, ‘This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.'"

We don't know much about the movie's plot, but, considering that Black is the guy who wrote/directed Iron Man 3 - and created that movie's massive Mandarin surprise - expect The Predator to shatter your expectations.
