8 Weird Directions The Comic Book Movie Genre Could Take

1. Resurrecting Previous Superhero Performances

Sean Connery returned to the Bond Role after 17 years so why not Michael Keaton as Batman again? It is of course highly unlikely but if The Dark Knight Returns were eventually made an older Batman would be required. With TDKR, you get the feeling that Keaton wouldn't exactly be right for that version of Batman. He would however make a good fit for the Bruce Wayne mentor role in Batman Beyond. This is a casting idea that could be well executed but in terms of marketability also holds a significant gimmick factor with which to draw increased interest. There are also some legitimate possibilities for actors returning to roles they have departed. Thomas Jane put forth a pretty convincing campaign for his return to the Frank Castle role after appearing in the live-action Punisher short €œDirty Laundry€. Hardly a prospect that would set the box office alight but it does suggest that the possibility of returning to previous actors isn€™t as immediately ludicrous as it seems. Expanding this idea further, much was written a few years ago about the possibility of resurrecting deceased actors like Humphrey Bogart and Marilyn Monroe via CGI. This idea hasn't come to fruition yet but with superheroes being equally at home in animation there is nothing to say a stylised animated tale presenting a JLA consisting of Christopher Reeve's Superman, Michael Keaton's Batman and Linda Carter's Wonder Woman couldn't be achieved. A mind-bending and outrageous suggestion perhaps but as this list has hopefully demonstrated... Anything could be possible. Any off-kilter ideas on where it's the superhero movie genre could heading?
