8 Weird Directions The Comic Book Movie Genre Could Take

2. Classic Story-Arcs

One of the greatest disappointments in superhero cinema remains the mishandling of the Dark Phoenix Saga in the X-Men cinematic universe. This may have been partially rectified with the handling of another classic story arc in Days Of Future Past (albeit in a radically altered form from the original material) but there is a clamouring to see some of the most beloved comic arcs done on screen with the faithfulness and reverence they demand. Thankfully, the mining of stories that made such characters popular in the first place is one option filmmakers could continue to pursue. It has been done quite successfully by Warner Animation in adapting key Batman arcs like Year One and Under The Red Hood and Justice League stories like New Frontier and The Flashpoint Paradox, so there is no reason to think a similar devotion to translating comics' most hallowed chapters couldn't be achieved in live-action. Who wouldn€™t want to live in a word where faithful adaptations of the Galactus Trilogy, or Blackest Night or Daredevil: Born Again existed? Though as we€™ve seen with Watchmen "faithful" doesn€™t always necessarily translate as €œbetter€.
