8 Weirdest Accidents On The Sets Of Films
4. Brad Pitt - Troy
In the film Troy, Brad Pitt plays Achilles. For those not familiar with the film or Greek mythology, Achilles was a hero featured in Homer's The Iliad. His mother Thetis dipped him in the river Styx in a bid to make him immortal, holding him by his ankle.
As a result, Achilles famously died by being shot through his Achilles tendon (except back then it, obviously, wasn't called the "Achilles tendon").
Brad Pitt trained for months to get in shape for Troy, spending over six months getting into shape for the role. After he got bulked up and began shooting, Pitt unceremoniously ruptured his Achilles tendon during a stunt and production had to shut down for several weeks until he got better.
In an interview after the film he stated "in a bout of stupid irony, I tweaked my Achilles’ tendon" - so at least he had a sense of humour about it. Director Wolfgang Peterson didn't find it funny though, as Pitt's injury came right off the back of another delay caused by a hurricane that ended up ripping through a 1 million-dollar set and destroying countless props in the process.
