8 Worst Slasher Horror Movie Fakeout Endings

6. Moonstalker

Receiving a limited release in 1989, Moonstalker is pretty darn awful and likewise features a pretty darn awful fakeout at its climax.

Here, the action takes place in a woods locale which happens to be the home of Bernie, a deranged, hulking murderer. In his crosshairs, there's a vacationing family and a slew of camp counsellors. Yes, this is all very formulaic, this is all very generic, and it's all unfortunately delivered in the worst possible way, with horrendous dialogue and dreadful performances aplenty.

Across Moonstalker, Bernie - who eventually disguises himself as one of the campers - has killed pretty much every single character bar final girl Debbie. Just as he's honing in on this last piece of prey, Debbie surprises Bernie and fatally shoots him from close range with a shotgun.

A shotgun shot? At close range? That's certainly going to leave a mark.

So, it's incredibly head-scratching and frustrating to see Bernie casually driving off in a police car - posing as an officer of the law - as Moonstalker's end credits roll. With zero explanation, Bernie rocks up, nods to a fellow cop, and then follows the ambulance containing the hysterical, straitjacket-wearing Debbie in a moment that makes zero sense.
