8 Worst Slasher Horror Movie Fakeout Endings

4. April Fool's Day

April Fools Day

Released in 1986, Fred Walton's April Fool's Day is nothing if not unique when it comes to the slasher subgenre. You see, April Fool's Day is a slasher offering that has zero kills.

The thing is, the audience isn't aware of this small piece of detail until the movie's climax. Up until that point, we've seen a slew of generic '80s victims offed in a wide variety of ways.

Set on a remote island owned by Muffy St. John, Muffy's cousin and his pals fall victim to a murderous plot that's been instigated by Muffy's evil twin sister Buffy. What plays out is as customary as you'd imagine for a slasher released in 1986, but there are admittedly a few decent deaths, plus the shocking moment Muffy's decapitated head is found.

So, when it's eventually revealed that every single murder in the movie had been staged as part of a test run of sorts for Muffy to turn her luxurious mansion into a horror resort, it's the absolute worst sort of fakeout; a fakeout that makes you realise you've wasted 89 minutes watching a horror film where the horror was merely all just a ruse.
