8 Worst Slasher Horror Movie Fakeout Endings

3. The Initiation

The Initiation
New World Pictures

From director Larry Stewart, The Initiation is famed for its final act reveal of a secret, unhinged twin sister for our lead character Kelly (Daphne Zuniga).

Where the fakeout element lies here, is in the mysterious, purportedly murderous Jason, as played by Robert Dowdell. With Kelly plagued by nightmares about a house fire and a burning man, she and her friends are soon in the midst of a serial killer.

Mid-way through The Initiation, it's revealed how the burning man is Jason, how this figure is actually Kelly's real father, how he was set alight during a fight with the man claiming to be Kelly's dad, and how he nowadays is locked up in a mental asylum which just so happens to have suffered a mass breakout.

So, this 1984 picture sets up Jason as being the person behind the murders of The Initiation, and the third act has him confronting Kelly, only for her to throw him from a rooftop to his apparent death. That's where the fakeout comes into play, with a couple of the survivors seemingly killed by Kelly... just for it to be explained that this is her deranged secret twin, Terry, who had been behind the carnage of the feature.

For poor Jason, he'd spent years locked up after having a breakdown caused by his wife cheating on him, her new lover setting him on fire, and had merely escaped his asylum home in order to let his daughter know the truth.
