80s Action Renaissance - 5 Actors Who Could Carry the Torch of Big and Dumb

There appears to be an action renaissance in the works. The Expendables 2 has hit multiplexes, and one of the biggest trailers attached to the picture was Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to leading-man status in the big, loud, dumb, awesome-looking film The Last Stand. A shift is coming with these action films, thanks in no small part to the muscled-up macho men from the 80s being front and center. Sly Stallone, Arnie, Van Damme, and company tossing out roundhouse kicks and tacky one liners is like a breath of fresh air. Over the last decade plus, action stars have evolved to have morals. They come with a conscious now, serious in manner and conflicted about their lot in life. Jason Bourne regrets his life as an assassin, even James Bond has qualms about cutting down the bad guys these days. Not that these films aren't solid in their own way - and probably more "important" in the grand scheme of things than 80s action - but Hollywood has always been cyclical. Audiences might be ready to shut off their brain for a little while and watch a few big muscle-bound ass kickers take on an army or a cartel and save the day. Think about the way you feel when you remember Commando or Rambo II or Bloodsport. These movies weren't so much concerned about telling a detailed story as they were about pyrotechnics and gut punches. These films were popular in the nineties as well, but it has been a while since these types of star-studded action spectacles have been popular for studios. If we are in the middle of an 80s and 90s action renaissance, who might be able to carry the torch for these old timers? Think about it, Sly and Arnie aren't getting younger no matter how hard they try. There has to be a new crop of action stars to pass these fireball films to. Some are obvious choices, a couple not as much.
