80s Movies That Made Me Love (And Want To Visit) America

5. Any '80s Teen Sex Romp Comedy

Rodney Dangerfield, Back to School

I was privy to all sorts of these totally inappropriate films growing up thanks to the wonderful invention known back then as the video cassette recorder. Some of those included iconic genre, defining comedies like the Porky's trilogy, Meatballs, Screwballs, Caddyshack, Back to School, Better Off Dead, Revenge of the Nerds and License to Drive (both of the latter highlighted in a previous article). All were not meant for eyes so young but it did make me want to experience a side of American life that unfortunately I am now too old to fulfill nowadays.

It was my dream as a young child to go to American High School, followed by a stint in an American college. And even though I knew what I was seeing was essentially bad behavior, I wanted to experience everything I had witnessed in full. And I also had a little fantasy about meeting my dream American girl that I could take to the prom (we didn't have things like that over here at the time), dress up in a nice suit, buy her the corsage, the whole trimmings. I even had an image of what the perfect girl might look like that I was planning to take at the time.

That is one dream I truly regret not fulfilling. Is it ever to late to go to a prom?

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
