80s Movies That Made Me Love (And Want To Visit) America

As a proud Trekkie and lover of all things sci-fi except for sci-fi channel produced dribble, this is not only standard viewing in my opinion for all "fanboys" of the genre in whatever extreme they project themselves, but an essential part of my collection since the very early days of beta inception. For those who have not seen it, I believe the IMDB synopsis summarises it best. "An alien takes the form of a young widow's husband and asks her to drive him from Wisconsin to Arizona. The government tries to stop them."

Although that does it no justice, as it is one of the best sci-fi dramas of all time that was directed by John Carpenter no less. He teams up with a very sexy Karen Allen & the subsequent journey takes them through the heartland of America in which he experiences the everyday "American" way of life, from apple pie to muscle cars. All of which culminates in one of the United States best tourist attractions for any budding nerd, Winslow Arizona. For those who maybe unfamiliar with the place, allow me to enlighten you.

Jeff Bridges absolutely shines as the alien lost on a foreign planet with no way of translating his desires for peaceful contact. And his reaction to "Dutch Apple Pie" is absolutely priceless. Hmm, makes me kind of hungry now: I take my pie with whipped cream, please.

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
