80s Movies That Made Me Love (And Want To Visit) America

3. Blues Brothers & Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Bluesbrothers

Although I don't really see the point of cinematic "musicals" (and don't get me started on why they should never win Oscars), for my own reasons I actually have to credit one for helping evolve my budding musical direction my life eventually took, and that is The Blues Brothers. Again, I myself find it quite ironic that one of my top five favorite films is actually classed as part of this genre, but that I guess is a topic for the therapist.

As it stands, The Blues Brothers helped define who I am today, so it goes without saying that I wish to experience everything Chicago has to offer. One of my all-time favorite fantasies from my childhood days (and honestly, still to this day) is to drive a replica of the Blues mobile the exact route in which they take with the journey culminating with a gig at the House of Blues, albeit probably within the confines of the law.

And on top of this you had Ferris Bueller's Day Off. To paraphrase Wayne Campbell: "if you lived in the '80s you were issued it." If I ever do make it there, my plans would include me traversing this wonderful city and its highlights, most preferably in a red Ferrari alongside Mia Sara. Chicago should consider building a monument to this iconic character as he did more for advertising than any governmental program could ever dream about. Well, except for maybe us Aussies....

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
