9 "Upcoming" Movie Remakes Trapped In Development Hell

It seems inevitable that Jason Vorhees will follow Michael Myers back into the cinema sooner rather than later: both are part of that particular breed of horror movie characters who simply don't die (even when their sequels are particularly stinky).

Paramount have the rights for the Friday The 13th franchise thanks to a deal they cut with Warner Bros on Interstellar and the initial plan was to work on a 13th film in the series. As such, they hired Breck Eisner for an origin story (what better opportunity for a celebration than the THIRTEENTH movie after all?) but the project simply ran out of juice, by the look of it.

It was supposed to be released in October 2017, but the conversation has changed now and the latest updates suggest that the rights have now reverted to Warner Bros/New Line and they're gearing up for a 2020 release to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original. That update came in 2017, though, so who knows what's going on with it now.

You'd think after the success of It that Warner Bros would be looking at every opportunity to emulate it, though, so there's hope yet.
