9 Actors Who Hated Working On Harry Potter Movies
2. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter)
Unsurprisingly, Daniel Radcliffe has suffered more than any other Potter actor with the sudden surge of fame that the role brought him as a young boy. Though calling the part "an incredible blessing," Radcliffe has also spoken at length about the darker side of appearing in the series.
First and foremost, he held similar frustration to Emma Watson, that he was basically learning to act professionally on-the-fly while working on the earlier films:
"The moments I'm not as proud of, mistakes other actors get to make in rehearsal rooms or at drama school, are all on film for everyone to see."
Furthermore, he admits to being especially disappointed by his own performance in the sixth film, The Half-Blood Prince:
"I'm just not very good in it. I hate it… My acting is very one-note and I can see I got complacent and what I was trying to do just didn't come across. My best film is the fifth one [Order of the Phoenix] because I can see a progression."
Radcliffe has also talked about the immense pressure of being a global icon, which led him to develop a drinking problem while filming the last three movies:
"I have a very addictive personality. It was a problem... People with problems like that are very adept at hiding it. It was bad. I don't want to go into details, but I drank a lot and it was daily - I mean nightly... I can honestly say I never drank at work on Harry Potter. I went into work still drunk, but I never drank at work. I can point to many scenes where I'm just gone. Dead behind the eyes."
Thankfully Radcliffe quit drinking in 2010, the year the Potter series finished filming. Still, he later referred to being part of the franchise as "like the mafia," in that "once you're in, you never get out." Ouch.
