9 Actors Who Made A Comeback In 2015

2. Colin Farrell

Big 2015 Films (And TV Shows): The Lobster, True Detective 2015 was going to be for Colin Farrell what 2014 was for Matthew McConaughey. After years stuck in mediocre-at-best movies (and In Bruges, which made the suffering worthwhile), he was going to return to serious acting and have every snarky online commenter eating their words. Heck, he was even going to be repeating Matt's trick by starring in the one-two whammy of True Detective and a unique indie flick. It's fair to say things didn't quite go to plan. True Detective Season 2 took a nose-dive, losing itself in pomposity and introversion to the point where narrative was forced into the backseat; it'd be self-parodic if at any point Nic Pizzolatto's sophomore outing was elevated above boredom. And The Lobster, his big serious movie, met great reviews (personally I'd say the second half is meandering waste of the first's great concept) but a pretty flat audience shrug (probably because the second half is meandering waste of the first's great concept). But, while neither have led to a full Farrellaissance, it'd be hard to say Colin hasn't pulled himself back more than a bit. The last time he was truly great was indeed In Bruges, and while the 2015 vehicles themselves weren't up to much, his performances in both (although I'd say Vince Vaughn, of all people, topped him in TD) are incredibly solid and promise a pretty good 2016.
