9 Actors Whose Big Break Movies Almost Ruined Their Careers

9. Taylor Kitsch - John Carter

Starting out as a model, Taylor Kitsch came to everyone's attention when he was cast in NBC's exceptional Friday Night Lights, and from there he was destined to transition to the big screen. And while his FIRST big break - X-Men Origins: Wolverine proved to be a bust, by 2012, he was being pushed as a new candidate for the A-list.

Unfortunately, the film chosen to cement that rising star was John Carter, which was far better than anyone remembers but far less memorable than was good for it or him. Disney marketed it terribly (including dropping the Of Mars from the title), and spent more than $250m on it and made very little back in profit while stumbling to divisive critical reception.

Did He Survive It?

It took a while - particularly as he made Battleship next - but Kitsch came back to relevance mostly thanks to appearances in The Normal Heart and True Detective on TV. He's nowhere near where he was predicted to be, but he has Waco coming, which should catapult him back to the top soon.
