Relation: Cousins Greatest revelation ever? Probably. Mr. Cruise opted to remove his real surname from his stage name, his full name being Thomas Cruise Mapother IV. Cruise has never given a reason for his choice to omit his real surname for his acting career, but the best guess is probably because of the Roman numerals. Cruise and Mapother are first cousins, and while Cruise is one of the most famous actors on the planet, Mapother is no stranger to fame himself. He's probably best known for his part of Ethan on the TV show Lost, but he's also appeared in several films alongside his cousin. Other than cameos in films such as Vanilla Sky and Minority Report, Mapother has also starred alongside Cruise in Mission Impossible II, Born On The Fourth Of July and Magnolia. Nepotism may be an extremely frowned-upon practice in business, but what's the point in having famous relatives if they can't so much as hand your name to a production team, at least for the purposes of consideration?
