9 Annoying Minor Movie Characters Everyone Wanted To Die

James Cameron could do no wrong in the 1980's (other than Piranha 2, but we don't talk about that) and hot off the heels of The Terminator came his sequel to Ridley Scott's Alien. Aliens was arguably THE surprise of 1986, with the movie gaining critical and fan acclaim.

Aliens worked because nearly every character was important. The actors playing the Colonial Marines had spent time together in "basic training" to take on the personas and experience of combat marines. There was real authenticity about the performances and even a late recasting from James Remar to Michael Biehn as Hicks didn't disrupt things.

The only drag on this movie, is perhaps also one of the reasons for its success but it has to be said... Newt (Carrie Henn) was the most annoying child in movie history, even more so than Short Round in Indiana Jones!

Newt goes from feral to timid and is basically constantly screaming once the Marines arrive. She does stupid things that put the team in danger instead of what she did to survive all that time and rather than leaving her behind, Ripley goes after Newt, leading to Hicks being gravely wounded.

It's harsh to say Carrie Henn is to blame, as she was a first time actress but Newt is just the worst and arguably if she had been killed off in a late twist, the movie would have been even better. After all, they killed her off-screen anyway in Alien 3.
