9 Authors Who Made Terrible Films Of Their Own Books

7. Steve Niles - 30 Days Of Night: Dark Days

While 30 Days Of Night was a big enough hit to warrant a sequel, it wasn€™t quite big enough to receive a theatrical one. So with a reduced budget, no returning cast and the great central gimmick of the original gone, the only route was to make a cheap, cheerless action movie based on the already disappointing comic sequel. Not a great recipe. 30 Days Of Night author Steve Niles returned to help pen the script €“ just like he did on the original - but even with his input, the movie just sits there. The story is threadbare, the characters aren€™t interesting or likable and there isn€™t even any good action scenes to compensate. The film also carries an unrelentingly dour tone, so it€™s not even fun when the gore starts to flow. Aside from one shocking moment when a character has their head bashed in with a brick, the only emotion you€™ll feel is boredom. Niles himself wasn€™t happy with the result, and there are no plans to revisit the series anytime soon.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
