8. Spielbergs Running Man Trilogy
The Films: A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (2001), Minority Report (2002) and Catch Me If You Can (2002).
Why So Awesome: Not the first entry of Spielberg on this list, on the face of it these films share little more than a director. But, coming out ridiculously close together, their similarities are highlighted. Each of the films feature a hero on the run from the authorities, starting with robots in the far future, then humans close to now and ending with a true story from the past. Its a nice throughline that links these otherwise distinct stories together. These admittedly dont have quite the same linkage as some of the entries on this list, but as an exploration of a concept in three different ways it succeeds. Whats interesting to note is that as the trilogy progresses, the running men become more and more deserving of being chased. And when placed in chronological (i.e. reverse) order this turns it into a rather bleak message.
