9 Behind-The-Scenes Occurrences That Make Famous Horror Films Even Scarier

5. The Omen: The Plane Tragedy

The devil was at work both on and off screen during The Omen's development. Just ask producer Harvey Bernhard, who started wearing a crucifix on set when a growing number of tragedies hit the production.

Awful things happened during the shoot, chief among them a private plane the crew had hired coming down, crashing into another vehicle on a highway and killing everyone involved.

Nobody connected to The Omen was on board at the time as their booking was cancelled to allow a couple of businessmen to rent the aircraft, but it wasn't the only plane-related incident during the movie's production.

Planes carrying lead actor Gregory Peck and producer Mace Neufeld were both struck by lightning, eight hours apart. Nobody was harmed during these events, but the same cannot be said of the car collision designer Liz Moore and special effects coordinator John Richardson were involved in.

Both were killed in the crash which, eerily, happened near the Dutch town of Ommen.
