9 Best Changes Stephen King Movies Made From The Books

4. Letting The Boys Live - Stand By Me

Based on King novella "The Body", quintessential coming-of-age movie Stand by Me has cemented its place in cinematic history as one of the most poignant and timeless films ever made.

While there were a few changes made to certain characters to suit the movie's casting, the main plot of the story remains the same: Gordie Lachance and his three best friends set off in search of a corpse, facing a few difficult truths together along the way. The story is framed by an adult Gordie writing about his childhood.

King's novella featured a slightly different ending, however. In King's story, the adult Gordie talks about how his three best friends have all since died, most recently his best friend Chris, who was stabbed trying to break up a bar fight.

While Chris' unseen death remains unchanged for the movie, the story was tweaked to allow the other two boys to survive, although both drifted apart from both Gordie and Chris. The movie also leaves us with a quote from the middle of the novella: "I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?"

The decision to give the movie a happier ending and use this quote to close the movie was a great touch, and helped Stand by Me really
